Madison College faced GateWay Community College in a doubleheader season opener on Friday in Mesa, AZ. The host NJCAA Division II Gecko's had already played 26 games prior to facing the WolfPack and it helped. The WolfPack outhit GateWay in their first game but fell in eight innings, 3-2. In game two, the Gecko's exploded for five runs in the sixth inning to win 6-3.
In game one, the Gecko's got out to an early lead with two runs in the first inning and the WolfPack tied it up with one run in the fifth and sixth innings. With the game tied at 2-2, the game went into extra innings. Madison College did not score in the top half of the eighth and Gateway scored in the bottom half to claim the 3-2 victory.
Brandon Gibis started his 2015 season with a bang. Leading off the game with a single and going 2-for-3 with a double and one run scored. Second year infielder,
Sam Hurt joined Gibis with two hits, going 2-for-4.
Dominick Golubiewski started for the WolfPack and pitched five innings, surrendering two runs on four hits. Golubiewski struck out five and walked four before turning it over to
Ryne Blanton. Blanton pitched two and a third giving up one earned run on two hits and two walks. Blanton received the loss.
In game two, Madison College took a 2-1 lead into the bottom of the sixth inning before the host Gecko's plated five runs. The WolfPack scored one run in the seventh but the four run deficit proved too much and the 'Pack fell 6-3 despite outhitting GateWay for the second straight game.
Brandon Gibis continued where he left off last game going 2-for-4 while leading off for the 'Pack.
Liam Kellogg also had multiple hits going 2-for-3.

Ryan Makuski all had an RBI and six WolfPack players had at least one hit in the 6-3 game two loss.
