The Madison College men's basketball team advanced to the NJCAA Region IV Tournament for the first time since the 2010-11 season with a 72-65 win over Mid Michigan Community College on Wednesday night in Madison, WI. The WolfPack used a 20 point and six rebound effort from first year forward,
Jerrod Walton, to secure a NJCAA Region IV Quarterfinal victory over the same team that ousted the WolfPack last season.
Last night, Madison College jumped out to a 32-30 halftime lead despite not getting to the free throw line at all in the first half. The WolfPack were 14-for-30 shooting from the field including 4-for-10 from beyond the arc in the half. In the second half, the WolfPack made it to the free throw line and capitalized to the tune of 17 points. Those points proved to be the difference in a close game that had five ties and eight points as the largest lead.
In addition to
Jerrod Walton's team high 20 points, the WolfPack received double-digit contributions from first year guards,
Kendale Nation and Kristin Zimmerman. Nation had 13 points on 5-for-8 shooting and Zimmerman pitched in with 11 points and 6 rebounds in 19 minutes of action.
With the win, Madison College advances to the NJCAA Region IV Tournament Semifinal at Joliet Junior College in Joliet, IL, on Saturday at 8 p.m. The WolfPack will face #2 seed, Milwaukee Area Technical College, for the third time this season. The WolfPack split the season series with the Stormers, losing 76-75 in Milwaukee on January 21 and winning 77-70 at home on February 14. Visit our
