Looking to snap a three-game losing streak, the Madison College did just that with a 77-70 win over the Milwaukee Area Technical College Stormers on Saturday afternoon. The win on Madison's home court not only snaps their short skid, but improves their record to 17-9 and 6-6 in N4C play.
Â
Madison grabbed the 37 to 35 halftime lead over the Stormers, even though they found themselves behind in shooting from the field 33 percent to the Stomers 46 percent. The 'Pack made up for the discrepancy by outscoring Milwaukee from three-point range (15 to 3) and from the free throw line (13 to 4).
Â
Armed with a two point advantage at the break, Madison hung tough despite the Stormers shooting lights out from the field (54%) to their 46 percent. Madison's defensive effort proved to be the difference as the WolfPack were able to force 41 defensive stops, and their pesky defense forced 23 Milwaukee turnovers on their way to scoring 28 points off of turnovers.
Â
Jerrod Walton once again led the team in scoring with 22 points on 7-of-13 shooting, including 2-of-6 beyond the arc and 6-of-7 from the free throw line. Walton also had a solid game on the defense end as he recorded two steals and a team high three blocks.
Brian Bearden (18) and
Kendale Nation (13) joined Walton in hitting the double digit points threshold, and the duo shot a combined 10-of-17 from the field and 10-of-12 from the line. Bearden grabbed a team high three steals and one block, and Nation contributed two assists.
Â
Next up for the WolfPack is another N4C game with the Joliet Junior College Wolves on Wednesday, February 18. The road game starts at 7:00 p.m.
