Madison College Women pull off upset of Rock Valley

The Madison College women's basketball team is officially on a roll. The WolfPack upset the Rock Valley College Golden Eagles 70-62 on their home court. The victory over the #3 ranked team in the latest NJCAA Division III poll, adds a huge N4C win to the 'Packs resume and improves their record to 18-5 overall and 8-2 in the N4C. Madison is currently in second place in the conference behind the 9-1 Stormers from Milwaukee Area Technical College, but the two teams play each other on February 14 in Madison.

The first half started off low-scoring for both teams as they struggled to a 27-27 tie at the break. Madison only shot 27 percent from the field in the opening half, but the Golden Eagles didn't shoot it much better (37%). The WolfPack did hold a nine point scoring advantage from beyond the arc in the frame. The game and the offensive tempo changed in the second half as the WolfPack shot 55 percent from the field (16-for-29), while limiting the Golden Eagles to 36 percent shooting. Madison College also outshot Rock Valley from deep in the half and outscored the host team by 15 points from three-point range in the game. The 'Pack's bench also proved big as they held a 27 to 14 advantage, and coupled with Madison's three-point shooting; the WolfPack were able to overcome the 10 point advantage Rock Valley held in the paint. The hard-fought game featured six ties in scoring, seven lead changes, and featured an 11 point lead (21 to 10) in Rock Valley's favor.

Taylor Nelson was the big scorer for the 'Pack as she scored 23 points on 8-of-19 shooting from the field. She was also one of three members of the 'Pack that knocked down two three-point shots. Jenna Endres (12) and Sydney Harms (11) rounded out the double-digit scorers for the 'Pack in the eight-point win. Jenna Endres was the team leader with three assists, while Lizzy Britt and Addison Hemming both recorded two steals. Double-digit scorer Sydney Harms was the leading rebounder for Madison with nine.
