Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

#2 WolfPack women match school record with 10-0 start

Just a month into the season and the 2015-16 Madison College women's basketball team is already rewriting the school record books. Courtesy of a 70-34 victory over Elgin Community College on Saturday, the #2 WolfPack have matched a school record for the best start to a season, winning ten straight to open the schedule. The feat matches the start of the 2009-10 national championship season, and it came with extra support as hundreds of youth players turned out to cheer on the 'Pack on Youth Day at Redsten Gym.

Madison College seized control in the second quarter, holding the Spartans to two points on 1-of-8 shooting with nine turnovers. The WolfPack, meanwhile, connected on 9-of-11 attempts in the quarter and made seven 3-point attempts, four of which came off the hand of second year guard Jenna Endres. They ended the quarter on a 23-0 run that included a stretch of six consecutive made baskets to take a 33-point lead into the locker room. The second half was played more evenly, with Elgin taking the third quarter by five points before succumbing to the WolfPack by 36 in the end.

Despite an overall rough shooting effort that saw Madison College convert just 28-percent of their shots, more than half of their makes were from outside the three-point arc. The 'Pack converted 11-of-25 attempts from long range, and their 23 made free throws equaled the number of attempts at the line for the Spartans.

The home squad also dominated in rebounds (59 to 26), points off turnovers (25 to 8), second chance points (16 to 3), and bench points (17 to 5). Aiding in those statistical advantages were 23 committed turnovers by Elgin and 25 offensive rebounds collected by the WolfPack.

Jenna Endres scored a season-high 26 points the pace the attack, matching a career high with seven 3-pointers. The Wisconsin Heights product has scored in double-figures in every game this season and 19 straight overall, a streak that dates back to last season. Taylor Nelson and Rachel Slaney also reached double figures. Nelson, the All-American from Monona Grove, finished with 15 points, tied for the team lead with nine rebounds, and dished out a team-best five assists. Slaney made just one basket, but was 7-of-8 at the free throw line to score ten points in the game. Emily Stein tallied eight points, as nine players scored in all. Mandi Sargent did not score, but did register nine rebounds - five of which were on the offensive end - three assists, three steals, and one block.

Madison College will attempt to set a new school record for wins to start a season when they host UW-Waukesha on Friday, December 11. Game time is 5:30 p.m. at Redsten Gym in Madison.
