The Madison College women's basketball team opened the Border Battle Classic with a 70-59 win over #8 Anoka-Ramsey College on Friday, November 6 at Redsten Gym in Madison. The WolfPack overcame an eight-point deficit in the third quarter by pouring in 26 points in the final ten minutes.
All-American guard and former Monona Grove standout
Taylor Nelson led the attack with 20 points, including two makes from beyond the 3-point line and an 8-for-10 effort at the free throw line. Nelson also dished out a team-high three assists and collected a pair of steals. Freshman
Rachel Slaney continued her impressive start to college basketball with her first career double-double. The three-time all-state player from Barneveld posted 16 points on an efficient 6-of-9 shooting with 4-of-5 makes at the charity stripe, to go along with 15 rebounds. Also in double figures scoring was second-year guard
Jenna Endres with 14 points.
Madison College shot 40.4% (23-57) for the game, including 30.8% (4-13) from deep and 20-for-27 (74.1%) at the line. Anoka-Ramsey hit on just 28.8% of their shoots from the floor. The WolfPack also dominated on the boards, netting a 55-39 advantage, and in second chance points by a 13-6 margin.
Now 2-0 to start the season, the WolfPack will conclude the Border Battle Classic against Gogebic Community College, who defeated #6 MATC-Milwaukee 93-86 earlier in the day. Tip off Saturday, November 7 is at 2:00 p.m. at Redsten Gym.
