WolfPack women sweep through Border Battle Classic

The Madison College women's basketball team proved to be the best of the bunch at the Border Battle Classic with their 68-50 win over Gogebic Community College at Redsten Gym on Saturday, November 7. The WolfPack were the lone team to post a 2-0 record in the two-day, four-team event that featured two top-ten ranked teams.

For the second time in three games, first-year player Rachel Slaney was the top WolfPack scorer with 16 points on 4-of-9 shooting and an 8-for-9 effort at the free throw line. Slaney also registered five steals in the game. Jenna Endres and Taylor Nelson were also in double-digits with 13 and 12 points, respectively. In all, 11 different players found the basketball and the scoring column for Madison College, which posted a 39.7% shooting mark overall. Mandi Sargent helped control the paint with a game-best ten rebounds and three blocks. The second-year post led the team with three assists.

The two teams combined for 47 turnovers, however, Madison College was better at capitalizing on them, gaining a 28-19 edge in points off turnovers. They also finished with eight more points in the paint, eight more second chance points, and ten more points off the bench than the Lady Samsons.

Earlier in the day, #8 Anoka-Ramsey got the better of #6 MATC-Milwaukee with a 73-69 win to conclude their play in the Border Battle Classic.

Madison College will put its season-opening three-game win streak on the line Tuesday, November 10 when UW-Rock County comes to Redsten Gym in Madison. The non-conference contest against the Rattlers will also be highlighted by Parent's Night. The game tips at 5:30 p.m.
