In one of the most lopsided wins in recent history at Madison College, the women's basketball team crushed the UW-Rock County Rattlers 83-20 for win number four in the early going off the season. The WolfPack didn't waste any time in grabbing the lead as they jumped out to a 24 to 3 first quarter lead, and then added 19 points to that for a 43-7 halftime lead at the H. Douglas Redsten Gym. The WolfPack added 40 more points in the last two quarters, and Rock County could only muster 13 more in the second half. The 63 point win saw several statistical anomalies as Rock County shot 24.1 percent to the 'Pack's 43.8 percent, Madison scored 50 points in the paint to Rock County's 10, the WolfPack added 27 second effort points to Rock County's two, and the WolfPack received 47 points off of the bench and Rock County only mustered nine. The WolfPack also scored 42 points off of turnovers as Rock County committed 37 and the WolfPack recorded 28 steals in the route.
Three players reached double-digits in scoring, and
Kaitlyn Kast shot 7-for-11 from the floor for a team leading 16 points. Kast also finished as the leading rebounder with six rebounds, and both
Rachel Slaney and
Mandi Sargent added four boards in the win.
Taylor Nelson was the team leader in both assists (5) and steals (7), while the trio of Slaney (5 steals), Sargent (4 steals), and
Carly Johnson (4 steals) had great nights in the theft categories. The foursome account for 20 of the team's 28 steals.
The 4-0 WolfPack are in for a much bigger challenge in their next game as they travel to Dixon, IL to face the NJCAA DI Sauk Valley Community College Skyhawks. The November 18 game starts at 5:30 PM.
