Box Score The men's basketball team from Madison College played a great game, but the host Sauk Valley Community College Skyhawks would have no part of losing on their home court in Dixon, IL. After an evenly matched game after regulation and one overtime period, Sauk Valley used a three-point scoring advantage in the second overtime period to sneak away with a 90 to 87 win over the WolfPack in two OT periods.
The WolfPack held a four point lead (35 to 31) after the first period, but things tilted in Sauk Valley's favor in the second half as the host team held the 42 to 38 advantage, and the two teams were headed to overtime after being tied at 73 at the end of regulation. Neither team was able to come away with a lead after the first overtime, as both teams could only muster seven points in the first five minutes of extra time. The second overtime looked like it would mimic the first extra frame, until the NJCAA Division I Sauk Valley team was able to grab a three-point lead and hold onto the 90 to 87 win.
Three players for the WolfPack all led the team in scoring as
Tyler Meier,
Cortez McCree, and
Kristian Zimmerman all recorded 19 points in the three-point loss to the high-quality opponent.
Malik Henderson, who reached double-digits with 11 points, led the team in rebounding with nine boards. McCree hauled down eight rebounds, and Zimmerman and Meier added six and five respectively. Zimmerman was also the team leader with four assists, McCree added three, and Henderson paced the defensive effort. He recorded team highs with five steals and one block.
The 2-3 men's basketball team is back at it on short rest with the two-day Carl Sandburg Classic in Galesburg, IL on November 20 and 21. The WolfPack play the Black Hawk College-Moline Braves at 6:00 PM on Friday, before playing the tournament host Carl Sandburg College Crusaders at 5:00 PM on Saturday.
