The 5-4-2 Madison College men's soccer team hosts the 5-6-1 Joliet Junior College Wolves tomorrow night (Friday, October 2) at 4:00 PM in Madison, WI. What comes across as a non-descript game between two five win teams, could be further from the truth. The WolfPack and Joliet are two of the three teams tied for second place in the North Central Community College Conference (N4C) standings with identical 3-3-1 records. Rock Valley College (also 3-3-1) takes on N4C front-runner Harper College and their 7-0-1 N4C record, also on Friday night.
Friday's game between the WolfPack and Joliet is also a rematch from the September 9 two overtime game that ended in a 1-1 tie. The winner of the game can take home bragging rights having won the season series, while also bettering their N4C record to move up the conference standings. Since the early season tie, the WolfPack rattled off three straight wins (2 conference), but the team then suffered two straight one goal losses to N4C teams.
The WolfPack offense is led by
Alfredo Ramirez-Pinho, who has 14 goals along with a team high 30 points.
Christian Munoz (7) and
Vincenzo Pipitone (5) are next up in goals scored. The duo is also next in line in points with 15 and 12 respectively.
Connor Waity is the team leader in assists with eight, and
Yacouba Koita and
Diego Lavariega both have six assists on the year. Defensively, the team has been stellar and they have helped goalkeeper
John Arendt to two shutouts and a 1.50 goals per game average. In 11 games and 1019:04 minutes in goal, Arendt has only allowed 17 goals to go with 57 saves for a .770 save percentage.
Friday's game begins at 4:00 p.m. at the Soccer Field on the Madison College Truax campus. The Soccer Field is located off of Anderson Street.
