Having not played a game in three weeks, the Madison College men's basketball team faced a stiff test in their return to action Saturday. Visiting the second-ranked team in Division II, Kishwaukee College, the WolfPack fell by 10 points, 75-65.
Despite shooting just 30 percent from the floor in the first half, Madison College kept things close, trailing by only three points at the halftime break. Unfortunately, with their offensive success improving just slightly in the second half, hitting 35 percent of their jumpers, the Kougars were able to pull away. For the game, Kishwaukee shot 52 percent from the field, with the WolfPack hitting at a 32 percent clip.
Jerrod Walton, the leading scorer for the WolfPack entering the game, was held to just nine points on 3-of-15 shooting.
Shane Kanaman led Madison College with 13 points off the bench, while
Tanner Schieve and
Brian Bearden each added 10.
Kishwaukee's Andre Harris led all scorers with 17 points. Meanwhile, Juwan Starks finished with 15 for the Kougars.
Defensively, the 'Pack had some nice moments, forcing 25 Kishwaukee turnovers, including 13 by point guard Yashua Trent. However, the Kougars outscored Madison College 28-8 from the free-throw line.
The WolfPack (8-3) begin North Central Community College Conference (N4C) play Wednesday, traveling to Wilbur Wright College for a 7 p.m. tip-off.
