The Madison College men's basketball team was aiming for a rebound win after last week's loss to top-ranked NJCAA DIII Rock Valley College, but ran into another buzzsaw in NJCAA DII #5 ranked Triton College. Triton shot 47 percent from the field overall and used a strong defensive effort to hand the WolfPack their second straight N4C loss, 77-63.
Â
Triton didn't waste much time in the first half and jumped out to a 46-32 lead at the break behind 50 percent shooting from the field, while holding the WolfPack to 27 percent shooting from the floor. Poor shooting coupled with a poor defensive first half proved to be pivotal, but the WolfPack weren't going away easy only down 14 at the break.
Â
In the second frame the WolfPack managed to claw their way back into the game behind improved shooting from the field (37%), and a strong defensive effort limiting Triton to only 44 percent shooting from the floor. Madison was only down six points with 3:17 left on the clock, but a missed shot by the WolfPack forced the team to go into foul mode and eventually lose by 14 points.
Â
Shane Kanaman was the leading WolfPack scorer with 16 points on impressive shooting from all ranges in 22 minutes on the court. Kanaman connected on 4-of-5 shots from the field, knocked down his three shots behind the arc, and was a perfect 5-for-5 from the charity stripe.
Tanner Schieve and
Jerrod Walton finished right behind Kanaman in scoring with 12 and 10 points respectively, while Walton and
Kendale Nation both led the team with five rebounds.
Â
Madison College is now 11-5 overall and 2-2 in the N4C after the loss to another highly ranked opponent. Next up for the 'Pack is a trip to Milwaukee to take on the 15-4 Milwaukee Area Technical College Stormers at 8:00 p.m. Wednesday night.
