Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

WolfPack men can't upset #1 Rock Valley

The 11-3 Madison College men's team was looking to pull the upset against the NJCAA Division III defending champs and current #1 team in the nation, but the Rock Valley College Golden Eagles had other ideas. The Golden Eagles shot 50 percent from the field and used a strong offensive effort from the inside (50 points in the paint), as they cruised to an 82-65 win over the WolfPack.

Rock Valley took the early 39-31 lead after the first half, but Madison College was still within striking distant despite being outshot from the field 34 percent to 45 percent. The WolfPack also struggled from beyond the arc connecting on only 2-of-10 three-pointers in the opening frame, but Rock Valley only shot 1-of-8 from the line to keep thee 'Pack in the game.

In the second half the Golden Eagles really flexed their muscles as they shot 57 percent from the field, 20 beyond the arc, and 90 percent from the line to pull away from Madison College. Although the WolfPack scored 10 more points from the line, Rock Valley's dominance in the paint proved to be the difference in the game.

Jerrod Walton paced the team in scoring with 19 points to go along with team-highs in rebounds (8) and steals (3). Walton struggled from the field shooting only 5-for-13, but the freshman connected on all seven off his free throws. Shane Kanaman chipped in 11 points, and both Brian Bearden and Clayton Alexander scored nine points for the WolfPack.

With the loss, the WolfPack fell to 2-1 in N4C play and 11-4 overall. The team has a few days to regroup before travelling to River Grove, IL for a conference game with the 16-2 Triton College Trojans at 3:00 p.m.
