It came down to the wire for the Madison College men's basketball team Saturday afternoon, but the WolfPack would not be denied. Behind 16 points, and some key free-throw shooting late, from
Brian Bearden, Madison College edged College of DuPage 75-73.
In the first half, the WolfPack would never trail, after scoring the first six points of the game. However, the Chaparrals would chip away at the 11 point Madison College lead following the halftime break.
After tying things up at the 6:52 mark, College of DuPage grabbed their first lead of the game moments later on a DeAndre Manuel jumper, which put the Chaparrals ahead 61-59. Following a made free-throw by Jonny Woolf with 1:53 left, College of DuPage found itself clinging to a 71-70 lead.
Fortunately, a pair of Bearden free-throws would give the WolfPack the lead back with 1:30, and Madison College proved to be the better team down the stretch.
Jerrod Walton (14) and
Antowan Epps (11) joined Bearden as double-digit scorers for the 'Pack.
Monday, Madison College (10-3, 2-0) will host UW-Marathon County at 7:30 p.m. They'll follow that game up by hosting defending national champion Rock Valley College at the same time Wednesday evening.
