Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

WolfPack volleyball wins three more in Rochester

After a nice weekend tournament in Rochester, Minnesota, the top ranked Madison College volleyball team has upped their record to 9-1 this season. Despite falling to an NJCAA Division II power, Des Moines Area Community College in their opening match, the WolfPack rebounded to win three straight.

Des Moines, ranked ninth in Division II, proved to be a bit too tough for Madison College to open the Rochester Invitational. In match number one, the Bears beat the 'Pack 3-0, winning by scores of 25-22, 25-21 and 25-12. Following their first loss of the season, Toby Parker's team would respond nicely.

In match number two, against Bismarck State College, the WolfPack got right back on track, besting the Mystics 3-1. After winning the first two sets, 25-13 and 25-16, Bismarck would win set number three 28-26. Not one to fold under the pressure, Madison College completed the victory with a 25-22 fourth set win.

Katlynn Wirag led the team in kills against the Mystics, finishing with 12 in the match. Meanwhile, Hannah Grahn tallied 38 assists, and Sydney Clarson collected 27 digs.

The WolfPack would ride the momentum of Friday night's win into their two Saturday matches. Taking on Central Lakes College-Brainerd and Ellsworth Community College, Madison picked up back-to-back three-set sweeps.

Wirag and Brooke Gilbertson led the 'Pack offensively. Wirag had eight kills against Central Lakes, while Gilbertson finished with 12 kills against Ellsworth. Setter Hannah Grahn had a combined 60 assists in the pair of contests, and Clarson finished with a two-match total of 39 digs.

Madison College (9-1, 2-0) return home Tuesday, Sept. 9, at 6 p.m. for a North Central Community College Conference (N4C) match against Rock Valley College. The WolfPack swept the Golden Eagles in both of their meetings last season.
