All good things must come to an end. For the Madison College men's soccer team, the end came Wednesday, in a 2-1 loss at Triton College. It was the WolfPack's first conference defeat this season.
The two teams had met previously, with Madison College winning 1-0. However, in their second tussle of 2014, the Trojans weren't as easy to tame.
Triton would get on the board first, getting an unassisted goal from Ruben Chavez in the game's seventh minute. Luckily, the WolfPack would have an answer in the form of
Tim Kennedy, who scored the game-winner in the first meeting between the two teams. Kennedy scored in the 22nd minute to even things at 1-1.
Unfortunately, a huge blow came to Madison College when
Mikel Appiah was ejected following a red card in the 36th minute. Despite the WolfPack playing shorthanded following the incident, it would remain tied 1-1 until the 62nd minute, when Chabeol Marquez beat
Thomas Sheahan for the game-winner.
Madison College was outshot 16-6 in the contest, with the Trojans putting six more balls on net. Sheahan made five saves on the day.
The WolfPack (4-4-1, 4-1-1) will look to rebound from their first N4C defeat Friday, as the team travels to Rock Valley College for a 4 p.m. showdown. Earlier this season, Madison College defeated the Golden Eagles 1-0.
