The Madison College women's volleyball team made short work of rival Milwaukee Area Technical College Thursday night. Playing shorthanded, minus
Mikayla Nigl and
Brooke Gilbertson, the WolfPack swept their conference foe 3-0, upping their current win streak to seven matches.
Set number one, the 'Pack got off to a shaky start, having to move several players out of their normal positions. The result was Milwaukee Area Technical College hanging around, before eventually falling to Madison 25-20.
Following the opening set, the WolfPack would settle in, allowing the Stormers to score 15 points the rest of the match. Sets two and three went to Madison College by scores of 25-6 and 25-9.
"New lineup," said WolfPack head coach
Toby Parker, when asked what the difference between set one and set two was. "That's exactly what it was. I give Hannah [Grahn] a lot of credit tonight too. She was the one that kinda had to settle those folks into their new positions."
Grahn finished with 24 assists, setting up
Tegan Van Moer for the kill on several occasions. Van Moer led the Madison College offense with 10 kills on the evening.
Defensively,
Sydney Clarson paced the 'Pack with 15 digs.
"We can get through anything, basically," said freshman middle blocker
Chandler Carlson, who moved to outside hitter for the match. "Just throw it at us and we can conquer it."
Madison College (13-1, 6-0) will next try to conquer a tough tournament, competing in this weekend's Harper College Invitational. On top of being slated to play two division II teams, Minnesota State Community & Technical College-Fergus Falls and Waubonsee Community College, the WolfPack will also test their mettle against the team ranked just below them in the NJCAA Division III standings, second-ranked Rochester Community & Technical College.
Illinois Valley Community College is up first for Madison in the tournament. The two teams will square off Friday at 3 p.m. in Palatine, Illinois.
