Box Score The Madison College women's basketball team did exactly what they wanted to do against College of DuPage Wednesday. The WolfPack made sure the game was played at their tempo, got the Chaparrals in foul trouble, and then won 73-60.
"We kept focus on 40 and 21, since the beginning of the game," said freshman guard
Gabrielle Hood. "Don't let them cut through the lane, let's play good defense, help all the time. That definitely hurt them, because they weren't ready for this."
"Once we got to where we wanted to be, our pressure bothered them," said head coach
Jessica Pelzel. "Then the fouls just mounted for them and worked in our favor."
Madison College managed to foul out two of the better players for the Chaparrals, Melissa Niggins and Donna Koerber. The pair combined for 17 points and 13 rebounds in the game.
Setting the tempo early, four players scored in double figures for the WolfPack.
Chelsey Schulenburg led the way with 16.
Ellyn Hayden,
Kelly Calhoun and
Gabrielle Hood added 12, 11 and 10, respectively.
Defensively, Madison College forced 29 College of DuPage turnovers, scoring 31 points off those opportunities.
Next up, the WolfPack (18-9, 9-4) will host Harper College in their final regular season game Friday. Tipoffs is set for 5 p.m.
