Box Score Earlier this season, the Madison College women's basketball team gave top-ranked Rock Valley College their toughest conference test, prior to falling 62-54. Saturday, it was a much different story, with the Golden Eagles soaring past the WolfPack 91-65.
Madison College shot the ball well in the opening half, hitting 50 percent of their shots from the floor, including two of three attempts from beyond the arc. However, the team still entered halftime trailing 45-36.
In the second stanza, the WolfPack struggles really began. The team managed to knock down just 28 percent of their shots after the break, failing to make even one of their eight three-point shots. Meanwhile, Rock Valley College shot 47 percent from the floor, hitting six three-point baskets in the process.
The Golden Eagles outscored Madison College in points off turnovers 29-19. The WolfPack turned the ball over 24 times in the matchup.
Rock Valley's one-two punch of Shantiera Miller and Marqueisha Grant was the biggest difference in the game. Miller and Grant combined to score 54 of the Golden Eagles' 91 points, hitting 17 shots and 16 free throws.
Gabrielle Hood paced the 'Pack offensively, finishing with a team-high 13 points.
Kelly Calhoun and
Chelsey Schulenburg added 12 and 11, respectively.
Madison College (17-9, 8-4) has now lost three of their last four conference contests. The team will look to conclude their season on a strong note, with home games against College of DuPage and Harper College coming up this week. The WolfPack will tip off against the Chaparrals at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, and then finish against the Hawks at 5 p.m. Friday.
