Rock Valley depth hurts WolfPack men in rematch

Box Score Saturday, playing at third-ranked Rock Valley College, three starters scored in double figures for the Madison College men's basketball team, including Griffin Eckhart who finished with 21 points and eight rebounds. Unfortunately, the Golden Eagles fought fire with fire, as their bench outscored the WolfPack reserves 55-11, en route to a 75-59 win.

Leaning on Jared Mayes, who scored a game-high 26 points in 34 minutes, Rock Valley took a 38-27 lead into the halftime break. They would never relinquish that lead in the second, despite a tough back-and-forth fight with the WolfPack.

Madison College matched Rock Valley in the second half, as both teams hit 44 percent of their field goals. Still, the Golden Eagles managed three more baskets from beyond the arc, outscoring the 'Pack 37-32 in the game's final 20 minutes.

Along with the previously mentioned Griffin Eckhart, Brandon Holz and Tanner Schieve had a nice game offensively for Madison College. Schieve scored 13 points, connecting on six of seven shots from the field, while Holz added 10 points and seven rebounds.

The WolfPack (4-22, 1-11) have just two games remaining in their regular season. The team will host College of DuPage Wednesday evening at 7:30 p.m., before finishing up with Harper College Friday at 7 p.m.
