Defensive letdown costs WolfPack men versus Wilbur Wright

Box Score The Madison College men's basketball team was 20 minutes away from snapping their four-game losing streak Wednesday night. However, playing a Wilbur Wright team they beat earlier in the season, the WolfPack couldn't seal the deal, allowing their opponent to shoot 59 percent from the floor in the second half.

Early on, Madison College found success on both ends of the floor. Not only did the 'Pack hit 41 percent of their shots, but they also held the Rams to just 34 percent. The result was a 31-27 halftime lead.

Unfortunately, in the second it was a different story, at least on the defensive side of things. Wilbur Wright turned things up a notch, hitting 16-of-27 from the field, while also making 13-of-18 from the free throw line. The Rams outscored Madison College 47-35 down the stretch.

By the time the final horn had sounded, the WolfPack had watched their lead and the game slip away. The final score read 74-66 Wilbur Wright.

Two players scored in double figures for Madison College. Brandon Holz led the team with 18 points and eight rebounds. Griffin Eckhart added 10 points and four boards.

The Rams took 12 more shots from the free throw line in the game, scoring 14 more points from the charity stripe than the WolfPack.

Madison College (4-21, 1-10) will face an extremely tough test in their next game, third-ranked Rock Valley College. The Golden Eagles soared past the 'Pack 105-74 earlier this season. The two teams are set to meet Saturday at 6 p.m.
