WolfPack men start strong, but can't overcome Triton

Box Score After 20 minutes Saturday, the Madison College men's basketball team was right where they wanted to be against Triton College, up five points at the halftime break. However, the WolfPack allowed the Trojans to hit 70 percent of their shots in the second, and were outscored 44-36, before falling by the final score of 80-77.

Madison College controlled the ball well and shot it well in the first half. Firing off 12 more shots than Triton, the team connected on 46 percent of their opportunities. The WolfPack's early success put them up 41-36 at half.

Unfortunately, things took a sour turn for Madison in the second, as they cooled off and the Trojans heated up. The 'Pack was only able to knock down 10 of their 31 shots (32 percent) after the break. Adding to the team's woes, Madison put Triton on the free throw line for 27 attempts, where the Trojans managed 13 easy points.

Getting 18 minutes off the bench, Corey McGowan led the WolfPack offensively, finishing with 16 points. Brandon Holz and Nathan Scheeter each added 13.

Devonte Taylor scored a game-high 23 points for Triton. Taylor hit eight of his 11 field goals, and went seven-of-19 from the free throw line.

Despite the loss, the WolfPack beat the Trojans in several areas on paper. Madison finished with more rebounds, points in the paint, and bench points than Triton.

The WolfPack (4-18, 1-7) are currently on a two-game losing skid. They will look to break that up Wednesday, Feb. 5 when they visit Joliet Junior College at 7 p.m.
