Everyone was shooting for the Madison College men's basketball team Wednesday night against Western Technical College, and almost everything was falling. Hitting nearly 52 percent from the field, including 47 percent of their attempts from beyond the arc, the WolfPack defeated the Cavaliers 91-63.
In the first half alone, the 'Pack poured in 56 points, resulting in a 21-point halftime lead. Sophomore guard
Antowan Epps finished with a game-high 18 points, 11 of which came in the opening 20 minutes.
"We're getting out in transition. I think that's the big part of our game," said Epps. "That's what coach preaches, pass the ball, and we're a great team when we do that."
With the team totaling 19 assists, freshman guard
Simeon Pooler benefited from Madison College sharing so nicely. Playing just 12 minutes off the bench, Pooler poured in 15 points, hitting three of his five shots from beyond the arc. Collectively, the WolfPack bench would finish with 44 points.
With the victory, Madison College improved to 7-1, their best start since the 2007-08 season when they won 10 of their first 11 games, finishing 25-7 overall.Â
"It's a really good group of guys," said WolfPack head coach
Scot Vesterdahl, when asked how much fun he was having this season. "They've got a ton of potential."
Madison College hosts Olive-Harvey College Friday, Dec. 12, at 7:30 p.m.
