Despite trailing 38-30 entering halftime Saturday afternoon, the Madison College women's basketball team came back to beat NJCAA Division II opponent Gogebic Community College, 69-67. Freshman guard
Taylor Nelson led the WolfPack with 21 points, six rebounds, three assists and five steals.
In the reverse of Friday's game against fifth-ranked Anoka-Ramsey Community College, the 'Pack picked up their play in the second half. After shooting just 27 percent in the first 20 minutes,
Jessica Pelzel's group hit 12-of-29 shots (41 percent) down the backstretch to grab the victory. Madison College was able to secure the win while being outscored in the paint 38-30 by the Lady Samsons.
Along with Nelson,
Megan Petty and
Kelly Calhoun also came to play against Gogebic. Both players added 10 points, with Petty falling just short of a double-double in adding eight boards, while Calhoun tacked on six rebounds, six assists and four steals.
The WolfPack were solid from the free-throw line, connection at a 70 percent mark, which helped the team edge out the Lady Samsons.
Madison College (2-1) will now return home Wednesday, Nov. 12, to host UW-Rock County at 5:30 p.m.
