The Madison College women's basketball team had two things working in their favor Wednesday night against UW-Rock County, size and depth. Both were very evident in the WolfPack's 87-64 victory.
The Rattlers, which boast just seven women on their roster, none of which are taller than 5-foot-8, suited up just six players against Madison College. The result was a WolfPack team which was able to truly wear down its opponent.
"We shared the ball very well," said Madison College head coach
Jessica Pelzel. "Our post players did a very good job of finishing."
One of those post players was freshman
Mandi Sargent. Sargent finished the game with a double-double, 12 points and 11 rebounds.
"I just know my job. I know I need to get stuff done," said Sargent. "[Coach] Mayfield always says I need to play well tonight, and that motivates me."
Four other members of the 'Pack joined Sargent in scoring in double-digits,
Sydney Harms (16),
Taylor Nelson (14),
Jenna Endres (14) and
Kaitlyn Kast (13). Collectively, the team hit 35-of-72 (48 percent) from the field.
Madison College outscored UW-Rock County 38-26 in the paint. They also bested the Rattlers in second-chance points, 24-5.
Up next, the WolfPack (3-1) will host Sauk Valley Community College, an NJCAA DI program, Wednesday, Nov. 19, at 5:30 p.m.
