Scoring is up for the Madison College men's basketball team this season, not coincidentally so are their wins. The WolfPack, averaging 87 points per game through three games, won for the third time in as many tries Saturday, beating NJCAA Division II opponent Gogebic Community College, 83-63.
Jerrod Walton was the name heard most frequently over the PA system in Ironwood, Michigan. Walton dropped 24 points, eight rebounds, two steals and two blocks in the game. Impressively, he did so while hitting 9-of-12 shots (75 percent) from the floor.
Only one other member of the WolfPack scored in double-digits,
Shane Kanaman. Kanaman added 10 points, knocking down a pair of triples.
Madison College doubled up the Samsons in points in the paint, outscoring their opponent 44-22 down low. At one point, the 'Pack led it by as much as 24 points, 75-51.
As a team, Madison College hit 56 percent (32-of-57) of their shots from the floor. They also knocked down 71 percent of their free-throws.
With the win, the WolfPack (3-0) remains undefeated on their young season. Next up, Madison College hosts UW-Rock County, Wednesday, Nov. 12. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
