WolfPack women's basketball opens with win

The Madison College women's basketball season is underway, and the WolfPack are off to a great start. Hosting Fox Valley Technical College in their season opener Wednesday night, the 'Pack picked up an 86-54 victory on Parent's Night.

The first half was pretty closely contested between the two teams, with both shooting around 33 percent from the floor in the opening 20 minutes. Despite a bit of back and forth action, Madison College would take a 40-32 lead into the halftime break.

In the second half, the WolfPack would take control. The team's shooting drastically improved, knocking down 17 of 34 shots (50 percent), while holding the Foxes to just 5 of 22 (22 percent). Madison College also made five three-pointers and seven free throws to close things out. The result was a 32 point victory for the WolfPack.

Taylor Nelson was very impressive in her Madison College debut. The Cottage Grove, Wisconsin, native finished with 18 points, six rebounds, seven assists and five steals. Three others, Jenna Endres, Sydney Harms and Taylor Strand, finished with 14, 13 and 12 points, respectively. Harms also added two blocks for the WolfPack.

Defensively, Madison College forced 23 Fox Valley turnovers, resulting in 24 points.

The WolfPack (1-0) will now travel to Ironwood, Michigan, Friday for the Tri-State Basketball Classic. There, the team will take on Anoka-Ramsey Community College at 2 p.m., followed by another 2 p.m. match against Gogebic Community College Saturday.
