Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

WolfPack men's basketball loses lead, falls at Elgin

A six-point lead at half wasn't enough for the undefeated Madison College men's basketball team Saturday afternoon. Facing an NJCAA Division II opponent, Elgin Community College, on the road, the WolfPack got outscored 42-28 over the final 20 minutes, losing for the first time this season, 75-67.

In the first half, Madison College shot the ball effectively, hitting 12-of-27 from the floor (44 percent), including five of their 13 shots from beyond the arc (35 percent). However, things took a turn for the worse after the break.

As the WolfPack offense cooled off, the Spartans heated up. Elgin Community College hit 52 percent of their shots down the home stretch. Conversely, Madison made just 22 percent of theirs.

Despite the losing effort, three players scored in double figures for the 'Pack. Jerrod Walton led the way with 16 points. Shane Kanaman and Brian Bearden finished with 14 and 13, respectively.

Elgin's Ryan Cork led all scorers with 21 points.

Madison College (5-1) will look to return to its winning ways Tuesday, hosting Rochester Community & Technical College at 7:30 p.m. So far this season, the WolfPack is 3-0 at home, outscoring their opponents by an average of 13 points in their home gym.
