Down two sets, WolfPack volleyball rallies in national semifinal

Box Score The top-seeded Madison College volleyball team smiled in the face of adversity Friday night. Faced with an 0-2 hole, and their chance at a second straight national championship slipping away, the WolfPack won the final three sets against fifth-seeded Brookhaven College (Texas) to advance to Saturday's DIII title game.

The Bears put Madison College on the ropes early, taking sets one and two by scores of 25-18 and 25-22. However, the 'Pack refused to roll over and play dead. Instead, they picked up their play and took control of the match.

After the WolfPack won sets three and four 25-20 and 25-21, it all came down to the fifth and final set, and the first one to 15 points. Luckily, Madison College was able to prevail, winning 15-8.

Several members of the 'Pack stuffed the stat sheet. Katlynn Wirag led the team in kills with 18; Hannah Grahn had 46 assists, Brianne Brueggen 18 digs, and Allie Lehner four blocks. However, it was truly the entire team's effort, and will, which overcame a game Brookhaven team.

Awaiting Madison College (29-3, 11-1) in tomorrow's 2:30 p.m. championship game is sixth-seeded Lorain County Community College (Ohio). The Commodores (28-11) upset top-ranked and second-seeded Rochester Community & Technical College 3-1 in the other semifinal.
