The Madison College women's soccer team will enter their first-ever postseason on a high note. Wednesday afternoon, visiting Joliet Junior College in their last regular season game, the WolfPack picked up a huge 6-1 victory over the Wolves.
Maybe even more impressive? Madison College didn't get a single goal from leading scorer
Elizabeth Conejo, who entered the game with a team-high 15. That is a true testament to an ever-improving WolfPack team.
Instead, Madison College got their goals from
Linnea Walstead (2:52) and Tynia Golednsoph (12:00) in the first half. Followed by four more scores over the game's final 45 minutes.
Goldensoph's second goal of the game (61:51) put the 'Pack up 2-1, following a Joliet goal in the 51st minute. Then,
Kathleen Endres (64:48),
Jamie Hess (68:07) and Goldensoph (72:29) would finish things off.
Prior to Wednesday's hat-trick, Goldensoph had registered just one goal on the year.
While Goldensoph's hat-trick was the undisputed bright spot for Madison College,
Linnea Walstead turned in a brilliant performance as well. To go along with her game-opening goal, Walstead also added two assists. The freshman from Waunakee, Wisconsin, helped set up the goal by Endres, along with the final Goldensoph strike.
The WolfPack (5-6-2, 6-5-1) will now await their playoff pairing. The team will compete in an NJCAA Region IV Tournament semifinal Saturday, Oct. 25, beginning at noon.
