Box Score For the first 20 minutes Wednesday evening, the Madison College men's basketball team played back-and-forth basketball with a much bigger Triton College team. However, the Trojans size frustrated the WolfPack down the stretch, leading to Triton pulling out the 69-53 win.
"They did a really good job of going through the high post and finding the weak side big," said Madison College head coach
Scot Vesterdahl. "There wasn't much we could do about it at times, because that dude is 6'8" down there."
After trailing just 28-26 at the halftime break, and holding the Trojans to 38 percent from the field, the WolfPack allowed Triton to hit 57 percent of their shots in the second half. Freshman guard
Jeffrey Cole chalked up the difference to his team having too many communications breakdowns.
"They were slipping in the back side, dunks, getting easy layups that we should have been aware of if we were talking," said Cole.
On the offensive side, Madison College struggled shooting the ball against the Trojans. Only one player finished in double figures for the WolfPack, as
Nathan Scheeter scored 16 points on 6-of-14 shooting. As a team, the 'Pack made just 31 percent of their field goal attempts.
"I don't think we've shot the ball, as a team, like we're capable of all year," said a frustrated Vesterdahl. "We might have one or two guys that are knocking down some shots, and some other guys that are missing great looks."
Madison College (2-11, 0-1) will look to snap a six-game losing streak Saturday, Jan. 11 when they host Joliet Junior College at 3 p.m. The Wolves swept the WolfPack in their two meetings last season.
