The Madison College volleyball team's winning streak was broken at this weekend's Rochester Community and Technical College Invitational in Rochester, MN this weekend. They ended the tournament with a 2-2 record.
The first game was against Des Moines Area Community College. Katlynn Wirag led the team offensively with 14 digs, accompanied by Danniele Crawford with three aces and two blocks, Vanessa Clarson with 16 digs, and Hannah Grahn with 19 assists. Despite their best efforts, the WolfPack lost 1-3.
In the second game, the team faced off against Rochester Community and Technical College. This time, the team's leaders were Payton Klein with 12 kills; Crawford and Elizabeth Mahsem with one block each, Vanessa Clarson with 37 digs; Wirag, Mahsem, Vanessa Clarson, and Courtney Frank with one ace each; and Alexis Semrow with 35 assists. The final score was 3-2 Rochester.
The WolfPack upped their game for round three, which was against Ellsworth Community College. They swept all three sets, led by Brooke Gilbertson with 11 kills; Crawford and Klein with one block each, Vanessa Clarson with 16 digs and two aces, and Semrow with 21 assists.
The fourth and final match against Western Technical College was a solid victory for the WolfPack. They held back their opponent by over 15 points each time, led by Kayla Voorhees with 10 kills, Mikayla Nigl with two blocks and four aces, Gilbertson with 12 digs, and Melinda Statz with 17 assists.
The volleyball team will hit the court again on Tuesday, Sept. 10 at 6 P.M. to take on Triton College.
