Box Score The Madison College men's basketball team played a great game and defeated the Rock Valley Golden Eagles 78 to 66 on Wednesday evening, and in the process picked up their first N4C conference victory of the season. The win in Rockford over the previously 3-1 Golden Eagles (N4C) broke the 'Pack's five game losing streak and gave the team much needed momentum heading in to Saturday's home, N4C conference game against the College of DuPage Chaparrals, who are 2-3 in the N4C.
The WolfPack fell behind in the early going of the first half, but responded to take a one point lead (37 to 36) at the half behind 53.5 percent shooting (15-of- 28) from the field. The team made 71.4 percent of their shots beyond the arc (5-for-7) in the first half and kept up the hot shooting in the second frame. Madison College shot at a 46.6 percent clip for 50 percent shooting in both halves compared to Rock Valley's 36.5 percent. Madison pulled away in the second half and outscored the Golden Eagles by 11 points in the last half for the 12 point win. The 'Pack also outscored the Golden Eagles in points off the bench (35 to 21), points in the paint (36 to 22), and defensive stops (45 to 35) on the way to the crucial conference win.
Jason Miller led the WolfPack offense with 26 points on 7-of-14 from the field, including 4-of-5 shooting beyond the arc. He also hit 8-of-10 of his free throws, and grabbed seven rebounds, dished out two assists, and stole two passes.
Dominic Fumbanks and
Brandon Holz both reached double-digits in points with 15. The duo combined for 13-of-22 shooting, 12 rebounds, and three assists. Fumbanks was the team leader with eight rebounds (3 offensive), while
Isaiah Nordeng paced the team with four assists.
The 3-17 Madison College men's basketball team returns home this Saturday for a N4C game against the College of DuPage Chaparrals. The contest tips off at 3:00 PM.
