Madison College Women’s Basketball Routes Triton in N4C Opener

Box Score For the second game in a row the WolfPack women's basketball team grabbed a commanding lead (41 to 13) at halftime to walk away with a 75-49 N4C conference win over the shorthanded Triton College Trojans in River Grove, IL. With the dominating win on January 9, the 'Pack improved their record to 6-10 overall and 1-0 in the N4C.

The WolfPack offense grabbed the big first-half lead by shooting 16-of-37 from the field (43.2%) and the 'Pack's defense limited the Triton Trojans to five field goals in 25 attempts and two free throws for the season-low offensive output for an opponent. Armed with the 41 to 13 halftime lead, Madison bettered their shooting percentage form the field in the second half (48.4%), but so did Triton (45.1%). Although the Trojans did manage to outscore Madison College 36 to 34 in the second half, the 'Pack were able to hold on for the big win. Other than shooting better from the field (44.5% to 33.9%), Madison College dominated in scoring 26 points off of turnovers to Triton's zero, as Madison forced 22 Trojan turnovers (13 more than the 'Pack). The 'Pack also won the points in the paint battle 30 to 20, and displayed better passing than their opponent as they dished out 22 assists to Triton's nine.

Leading the offensive charge for Madison College was two players who finished with 20 points. Sophomore Courtney Spangler recorded her 20 points by shooting 9-of-17 from the field and adding two free throws, while freshman Alyssa Anding dropped 20 points on the Trojans by shooting 7-of-13 from the field, including 2-of-2 from beyond the arc. She also knocked down two free throws, recorded four assists, and snatched two steals. Spangler grabbed six rebounds, and finished with two assists, one block, and one steal. Mimicking the 20 and 20 by Spangler and Anding, Ellyn Hayden and Calli Dahl both pitched in 12 points to round out the four double-digit scorers for the WolfPack. Besides the offense, Hayden hauled down a team-high seven rebounds, and Anding contributed four assists and two steals. Also getting into the action was Chelsey Schulenburg who finished with a team-high seven assists and Taylor Pfeuti with a team-high four assists.

The 6-10 women's basketball team has a few days off before another conference game on Saturday, January 12 against the Joliet Junior College Wolves. The road game in Joliet, IL tips-off at 1:00 PM.
