Madison College Stuns #2 Ranked Rock Valley College

On Thursday night the WolfPack volleyball team put together one of their most complete matches and upset the undefeated and visiting Rock Valley College Golden Eagles in Madison, WI in a five set victory, 12-25, 21-25, 25-20, 25-18, 15-11. The Golden Eagles entered the game 16-0 (undefeated in both set and match play) and showed why they were ranked second in the nation in DIII volleyball by the NJCAA by dominating the first game 25-12, before putting the WolfPack in 0-2 hole with a 25-21 victory in the second game. Down 0-2 in the N4C conference matchup, things were looking bleak for the 'Pack and the hometown faithful that packed the H. Douglas Redsten Gymnasium, but the Madison College volleyball team wasn't about to let the crowd down.

The WolfPack put together an amazing third set and clawed back into the match with a 25-20 set victory. Not resting on their laurels, they evened up the game with a huge 25-18 victory in the fourth set to even things up at 2-2 and force the pivotal fifth frame. Madison College jumped out to an early lead, before the Golden Eagles were able to tie the game midway through it. All tied up, the 'Pack completed their comeback in the final set and claimed the shocking five-set win with the 15-11 win!

Payton Klein led the team's offensive attack with 13 kills, while Alexis Semrow provided most of the assists with a team high 33. Morgan Ellickson also got into the offensive action by leading the team with four services aces. Kayla Voorhees and Vanessa Clarson provided a lot of the defense against Rock Valley's high-powered offense with five blocks and 29 digs respectively.

The 10-3 (4-1 N4C) Madison College volleyball team has the weekend off before hosting the Triton College Trojans' next Tuesday, September 18. The N4C conference match starts at 6:00 PM in Madison, WI.
