The Madison College volleyball team got off to a great start at the Rochester Invitational this past weekend by winning their first three matches (all by the score of 2-0) before falling to tournament host Rochester Community and Technical College in two sets. The 3-1 performance in Rochester, MN improved the Madison volleyball team's record to 8-3.
The 'Pack started their dominance with a 25-21, 25-11 win over the Riverland Community College Blue Devils in the neutral game.
Danielle Crawford led the team with eight kills and a team leading three blocks, while
Alexis Semrow provided most of the assists with 18. Semrow also added a team high two service aces, and
Vanessa Clarson recorded 18 digs to lead the defensive effort. With the win, the WolfPack improved to 6-2.
In their second match of the Rochester Invitational, the WolfPack kept rolling as they took the first set 25-13 over the Minnesota West Community & Technical College Blue Jays before completing the match with a 25-9 win.
Terissa Bierd provided eight of the team's 19 kills, while adding three service aces. Daniele Crawford led the team in the serving category with an eye-popping six aces and
Alexis Semrow recorded a team-high 10 assists.
The Viterbo University JV Hawks were no match for Madison in the WolfPack's third tournament match-up. The NCAA DIII team did put up a good fight, but the 'Pack prevailed in two sets, 25-21, 25-13.
Vanessa Clarson and
Kayla Voorhees both recorded a team-high five kills, and
Alexis Semrow provided 17 of the team's 18 assists. Clarson also led the team with 16 digs and two service aces, while Voorhees recorded two solo blocks. The two-set win extended the Madison College volleyball team's winning streak to five matches and gave them an 8-2 record.
In their final tournament game against the host Rochester Community & Technical College Yellowjackets, Madison was put in an unfamiliar situation. The NJCAA DIII school snuck by the 'Pack in the first set (21-25), before sealing Madison College's fate with a two point win, 23-25.
Terissa Bierd recorded a team-leading six kills, and
Alexis Semrow once again led the team with 16 assists.
Vanessa Clarson added 19 digs and
Danielle Crawford notched two block assists in the loss.
The 8-3 Madison College volleyball team next takes to the court tomorrow afternoon, September 11, in a conference match against the Joliet Junior College Wolves in Joliet, IL. The N4C match starts at 6:00 PM.
