Much like the Madison College volleyball team's heartbreaking loss a night earlier, the men's soccer team was narrowly defeated in their home and N4C conference opening match on Wednesday, 2-1 in overtime. Although the Milwaukee Area Technical College Stormers outshot the 'Pack (23 to 9), landed more shots on goal (13 to 3), and took more corner kicks (6 to 2); the Madison defense and goalkeeper
Ian Murphy almost held the lead for the home team after the WolfPack took the 1-0 second half advantage.
The visiting Stormers played the part of the spoiler, as they erased the 1-0 WolfPack lead almost 70 minutes into the game, to tie the score at 1-1. Madison College goalkeeper
Ian Murphy, and the 'Pack defense, made several great plays late in the game before the two teams headed into overtime all knotted up. Murphy played outstanding in the net, picking up 11 saves (5 in the first half, 6 in the second).
The Stormers struck quickly in the extra period, scoring the game-winning goal one minute and 21 seconds into overtime play. The agonizing loss nullified the great game the Madison soccer team played, both on the field and in the net.
Freshman forward/midfielder
Matric Kotula got the 'Pack on the board with a second half goal, 51 minutes and 27 seconds into the match. Murphy provided the assist on the goal that put Madison up 1-0 for 15 minutes, before Milwaukee started to change the outcome of the game.
The 0-2 WolfPack have over a week off before travelling to Palatine, IL for a conference game against the Harper College Hawks on Friday, September 7. The game is slated to start at 4:00 PM.
