WolfPack Volleyball Starts Their Season on a High Note

The faces on this year's Madison College women's volleyball team are different, they return just one player from 2011-12 (Madison Milsap), but the results remain the same. Opening their season at the College of DuPage Invitational, the WolfPack played four division-II schools, beating three of them this weekend.

First up, the 'Pack took out Oakton Community College 3-1. Madison College took the first set 25-23, and dropped the second 25-20, before finishing off the Raiders 25-19 and 25-11. Payton Klein and Terissa Bierd led the team offensively with ten kills apiece. Meanwhile, Danielle Crawford tallied six blocks, Vanessa Clarson came up with 22 digs, and Alexis Semrow had 30 assists.

The WolfPack would again open up strong in match number two. Matched up with Illinois Valley Community College, Madison won two of the first three sets. Unfortunately, the Eagles would fly away down the stretch. Illinois Valley won the last two sets 25-19 and 25-12 respectively. Dani Crawford had a well-rounded performance, registering 12 kills and two blocks. Payton Klein would lead the team defensively with 24 digs, and Alexis Semrow notched 38 assists.

Lake Michigan College was next, and the WolfPack would not be denied their second win of the season. Madison College made quick work of the Red Hawks, picking up a 3-0 victory (25-18, 25-16, 25-16). Terissa Bierd came up with a team-high 11 kills, and Vanessa Clarson finished with 12 digs.

In their final match of the tournament, Madison College squared off with Ancilla College. Once again, the 'Pack cruised past their opponent with another 3-0 victory (25-17, 25-21, 27-25). For the third time in four matches, Terissa Bierd was the offensive star for Madison College, registering 14 kills. Vanessa Clarson picked up 18 digs, and Alexis Semrow 19 assists.

Madison College (3-1) will compete in their regular season home opener on Tuesday, August 28 when they host North Central Community College Conference (N4C) foe Harper College. The action will get underway at 6:00 PM.
