WolfPack Fall Short in Arizona Finale

Box Score The Madison College baseball team looked to end their Arizona spring trip on a positive note, but fell one run short in a 4-3 loss to the Douglas College Royals in sunny Tucson, AZ. After the loss to the Royals the 'Pack returned home with an 8-3 record in their annual trek south to open the season.

First year designated hitter Nathan Pollack grabbed the headlines for Madison after going 1-for-3 and adding three RBI, including two RBI on his sixth inning double to left center that put the 'Pack within one run. Jon Dybevik, Luke Maldonado, and Vincent Schmitz each picked up a hit as the WolfPack was limited to just four in the seven inning game. Maldonado's hit, like Pollack's, was for two bases, and Eric DuCharme picked up a stolen base and scored twice in the loss.

After starting pitcher Casey Doucette gave up four runs to the Royals in the third inning to give the Royals a 4-1 lead, both teams were quiet till Pollack's sixth inning double. Down 4-3 after Pollack's big hit, the 'Pack threatened to score on Schmitz's one-out single to center in the top of the seventh, but the Douglas closer had other ideas as he picked up the final two outs.

After a successful 8-3 trip to Arizona, the Madison College baseball team has nine days off before their next game against the Black Hawk College-Moline Braves on March 25. The first game of the doubleheader in Moline, IL starts at 12:00 PM.
