Women’s Basketball Tripped Up in Two Iowa Games

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Madison College women's basketball team dropped to 3-7 on the year, including 0-4 on the road after losing two games this past weekend in Iowa. The WolfPack was defeated 53-77 to the Ellsworth Community College Panthers on Saturday in Iowa Falls, before losing 50-78 to the North Iowa Area Community College Trojans the following day.

In Saturday's game against Ellsworth, the host Panthers jumped out to a 40 to 30 lead after the first half and turned up the defensive pressure in the second frame to extend the advantage and walk away with the 24 point win, 77-53. The NJCAA DII Panthers limited the WolfPack to 25 percent shooting from the floor, won the turnover battle by seven (14-21), while the home bench contributed 29 points to the 'Pack's 11 in the lopsided win.

Taylor Pfeuti led the team with 15 points, and Courtney Spangler added another double-double (her fourth of the year) with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Ellyn Hayden led the team with 12 rebounds (8 offensive), and Calli Dahl dished out a team leading five assists.

In the women's second Iowa game of the weekend, the WolfPack lost in similar fashion to the NIACC Panthers 78-50 after falling behind 40 to 25 in the first half. Once again, the 'Pack was limited to 20 percent shooting from the floor in the game, and NIACC won both the turnover and rebounding battles.

Courtney Spangler scored a team leading 16 points while adding 14 rebounds (7 offensive) for her fifth double-double of the year. She also led the team with two assists, a block, and one steal against the NJCAA DII school. Taylor Pfeuti also reached double figures with 11 points while hauling down four rebounds, dishing out an assist, and recording a block.


The WolfPack women's team returns home for two straight games this week (Wednesday and Friday). Next up is Wednesday's game against the Rochester Community & Technical College Yellowjackets. The game on December 12 starts at 5:30 PM.
