Box Score 2 The women's basketball team from Madison College got off to a better start in their second tournament of the year as they defeated the Anoka-Ramsey Community College Golden Rams 56-53 in their first game of the Milwaukee Area Technical College Classic on November 9. The three-point win gave the WolfPack first victory of the 2012-13 campaign. Unfortunately the WolfPack couldn't keep up the positive momentum in their second game as they lost to the Gogebic Community College Lady Samson's 67-75 in Saturday's tournament finale.
Down by four (24 to 29) after the first half in Friday's game, the WolfPack rallied in the second and outscored the Golden Rams by eight in the frame to walk away with the three point win (56 to 53). Second year post player
Courtney Spangler led the team with 12 points and nine rebounds. Besides falling one rebound short of a double-double, the Walworth, WI native added two steals and an assist. Two other members of the 'Pack joined Spangler in double figures in points as
Alyssa Anding tied for the team lead with 12 points and
Terissa Bierd added 11 points to round out the well-balanced attack in the three point win. Anding also hauled down eight rebounds, and Bierd chipped in two rebounds and two steals.
The second game of the tournament started off eerily familiar for the WolfPack as they came into halftime down 24 to 28. Madison College did put up 43 second half points but the Gogebic Lady Samsons matched them and more with 47 points in the frame for the 75-67 win over your WolfPack.
Courtney Spangler once again led the team with 31 points, while adding 16 rebounds for her first double-double of the season. She also added two assists and a steal. One other reached double digit points as
Chelsey Schulenburg (11) made the cut-off.
Terissa Bierd (8) fell just short in the loss. Schulenberg added four rebounds and an assist, and Bierd led the team with three assists and five steals.
The 1-3 WolfPack play their first home game of the season this Wednesday, November 14, when they host the NJCAA DI Sauk Valley Community College Skyhawks. The non-conference home game starts at 5:30 PM.
