Madison College Volleyball Loses Close Road Match

The Madison College WolfPack volleyball team couldn't quite overcome the home court advantage the Rock Valley College Golden Eagles held as they fell 3-1 in a conference match in Rockford, IL. The WolfPack jumped out to an early lead with a 25-23 victory in the opening set, but the Golden Eagles had their number in the final three sets as they won 25-22, 25-15, and 26-24. After the loss, the 'Pack fell to 14-4 overall and 3-2 in the N4C conference, and the team also dropped to 2-2 on the road. The four-set loss also ended the WolfPack's nine game winning streak they started September 6 with an away conference victory over the Milwaukee Area Technical College Stormers.

Sophomore Hannah Schwartzer led the team with 20 kills in 49 attempts. She finished the with a .245 attack percentage, a team-leading two service aces, 14 digs, and a block assist. Sophomore Kristen Halma setup the majority of the Schwartzer kills and finished with a team leading 32 assists. She also had six kills of her own in 25 attempts, with no errors for a .400 attack percentage. She added 10 digs in the conference battle. Leading the defensive efforts of the WolfPack were sophomores Calli Dahl and Kate Jonas. Dahl finished with 29 digs, while Jonas had two solo blocks, a block assist, and seven digs. Dahl also added three kills and a service ace and Jonas recorded six kills and a service ace.

Next up for the 14-4 WolfPack volleyball team is a return home for three matches (two conference) starting with a September 22 matchup with the Harper College Hawks. The WolfPack then hosts in-state rival Western Technical College on the 27th of September before taking on conference foe Joliet Junior College on September 29. All three home games at the H. Douglas Redsten Gym start at 6:00 PM.
