WolfPack Wins Rochester Invitational

The Madison College volleyball team picked up right where they left off on Friday, winning three straight matches Saturday afternoon to win the Rochester Invitational. To take the title the WolfPack beat Bismark State, Rock Valley College, and Indian Hills College in succession.

Bismark brought everything they had in game one against the 'Pack. The Mystics played Madison to a 29-27 loss. Then the WolfPack turned it on, taking game number two 25-16. Hannah Schwartzer was great once again, picking up nine kills in the 2-0 victory. Calli Dahl had 14 digs, and Kirsten Halma registered 21 assists.

Rock Valley, a North Central Community College Conference (N4C) rival of the WolfPack's, was the test in the Semi Finals. Ranked sixth in the NJCAA Division III poll, the Golden Eagles proved to be no match for the fifth ranked 'Pack. Hannah Schwartzer continued her tournament dominance with 13 kills, as Madison won 2-0 (25-18, 25-21).

Come the championship game, a rematch with Indian Hills, the WolfPack would not be denied. After dropping the first game 25-20, Madison College picked up two tough wins by scores of 25-23, and 16-14 to take home the title 2-1. Like she did all tournament long, Hannah Schwartzer led the team with 16 kills. Ashley Ponyicsanyi picked up 14 digs, and Kirsten Halma had 21 assists.

Madison College (12-3) will return home on Tuesday, September 13th to face Triton College. The match will mark the third conference contest for the 'Pack. The action will get underway at H. Douglas Redsten Gymnasium at 6:00 PM.
