The Madison College men's basketball team fell just one basket short of upsetting the #1 ranked team in the country on Tuesday night. The WolfPack had two shots with under four seconds left to go to hand the host Joliet Junior College Wolves only their second loss of the year.
The WolfPack fell behind 37-26 at halftime of their game against the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division III #1 nationally ranked Joliet Junior College Wolves in Joliet, IL. Madison College shot just 34% from the field and 11% from three in the first half. In the second half, the WolfPack stormed back, shooting over 51% from the field and almost 47% from three. The WolfPack outrebounded the Wolves 44-32 including 16 offensive rebounds. Madison College outscored Joliet 48-38 in the second half but fell just short from completing the comeback.
With four seconds left, the Wolves committed an offensive foul giving the ball back to the WolfPack. First year forward,
Tyler Kowalkowski had a shot and
Derrick Nillissen had a tip but neither went in so the WolfPack fell 75-74.
Two Madison College players posted double-doubles.
Corey Yahnke had a game-high 24 points and 11 rebounds while teammate
Aaron Jones had 17 points and 10 rebounds. It was Yahnke's third double-double of the season while it was Jone's first.
With the loss the WolfPack fell to 11-12 and are tied for third in the conference with Harper College at 5-5. Madison College plays Western Technical College in LaCrosse, WI on Thursday before returning home on Saturday for a matchup with Harper College.
