The WolfPack women's basketball team lost their first game in the last five to a talented Rock Valley College team, 79-67. The Golden Eagles came into the game ranked #2 in the nation in the most recent National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division III poll and showed why by outrebounding and outshooting the WolfPack.
The WolfPack fell behind by ten points in the first half despite foul trouble to one of the Golden Eagles top post players, Marion Thompson. Madison College gave up too many second chance points and many easy baskets in the first half. In the second half, the WolfPack shot better, shooting 50% from the field and shot 4-for-8 from three but the Golden Eagles bench, including Cierra Morris who had a game-high 30 points, outscored the WolfPack's bench, 43-6. The WolfPack committed 26 turnovers and allowed Rock Valley to win the battle in the paint, 56-14.
Alicia Kopp led the WolfPack in scoring with 24 points before fouling out with four minutes left to go. Second year guards,
Mya Flentje and
Jamie Nolan each had double-figures with 16 and 14 points, respectively. They combined to shoot 5-for-9 from three.
The WolfPack fall to .500 at 11-11 and are 6-3 in conference play. The women are in action on Tuesday, February 8 at 5:00 PM in Joliet, IL against Joliet Junior College.
