The WolfPack men's basketball run in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region IV Tournament came to an end on Saturday night as the #3 nationally ranked Joliet Junior College Wolves upended Madison College's bid at their first national tournament appearance in 25 years with a 72-57 loss.
The WolfPack fell behind in the first half as the Wolves got to the basket and had eight more shots on offensive rebounds. Madison College trailed by 15 points going into halftime. In the second half, the WolfPack had their chances as Joliet's post players were in foul trouble. But, despite the foul trouble the WolfPack could only get within 11 points before Joliet would answer. The WolfPack shot 6-for-11 from three and almost 55% from the field in the second half but a 38-18 Joliet advantage on points in the paint and a 18-4 advantage on second effort points proved to much to overcome.
The only WolfPack player to reach double-figures was second year guard
Derrick Nillissen on 4-for-6 shooting from beyond the arc for 12 points.
Aaron Jones finished with nine points and
Jordan Van Cleave finished with 8 points. Post players
Garrett Borgrud and
Corey Yahnke each had seven points and combined for 14 rebounds.
Madison College fell 72-57 ending their postseason run one game short of the national tournament. The WolfPack finished 16-15 on the season and were NJCAA Region IV runners-up for the first time since moving to Region IV.
Aaron Jones and
Corey Yahnke each received NJCAA Region IV all-tournament honors.
