Ashley Biesterveld put up big numbers for the WolfPack at the Kankakee Invitational.
Less than one week after playing two of the top-five ranked teams in Division III of the NJCAA, things did not get any easier for the WolfPack at the Kankakee Invitational in terms of the level of competition. They went 3-2 against five Division II two teams, including the fourth-ranked team in the country and two teams looming just outside of the Top 20. When it was all said and done, the WolfPack took fourth place at an invitational where they were the only Division III team on the court.
The highlight of the invitational for the WolfPack (14-6 overall, 4-1 N4C) was the 5-set victory over Parkland College 26-24, 16-25, 25-17, 16-25, 15-13. The Cobras entered the invitational ranked as the No. 4 team in the country and the WolfPack were the only team in Kankakee, Ill. to defeat the winners of the invitational.
Ashley Biesterveld had a huge match against the Cobras, leading the WolfPack with 11 kills and 16 digs.
Calli Dahl added a season-high five aces in the win over the nationally ranked opponent.
Biesterveld came up big throughout the invitational for the WolfPack. Out of the five matches played in Kankakee, she led the team in kills four times, digs three times and aces three times.
The invitational opened and closed for the WolfPack with three-set sweeps over Ancilla College and McHenry County College. The WolfPack took down Ancilla 25-16, 25-17, 25-13 and McHenry 25-13, 25-18, 25-21.
The two losses for the WolfPack came at the hands of Muskegon Community College and the host, Kankakee Community College. The WolfPack dropped all three sets to Muskegon, but did not go down easy 22-25, 18-25, 30-32. The WolfPack pushed the third and final set of the match to the limit before finally falling to Muskegon. On their home floor in the following match, Kankakee took down the WolfPack in three sets for the second-straight match after knocking off Parkland.
The Invitational was the third and final tournament for the WolfPack before the postseason begins on Oct. 27. The WolfPack play eight of their final 10 games of the regular season against Division III North Central Community College Conference (N4C) opponents. The other two games are against the JV squads from Carthage College and the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. The WolfPack will also have the luxury of playing six of their final ten games at home in the Redsten Gymnasium.
