Leslie Newell is in her second year as the Madison College assistant women’s volleyball coach. Newell grew up in Merrillville, IN and attended Merrillville High School. As middle blocker in high school, she was named the Times Co-Player-of-the-Year in her senior season.

After high school she signed with the University of Cincinnati. She excelled at the NCAA DI University of Cincinnati, and in her senior year she served as a team captain and ranked fifth in Conference USA with a .322 hitting percentage. Her career totals rank her in the top ten in University of Cincinnati history in block assists and hitting percentage, while also finishing her career with 953 kills. Newell also holds the fourth and fifth highest single match hitting performances in school history.

Newell graduated with a major in finance in 2004 and currently works as a Financial Planner in addition to coaching youth volleyball. She has helped coach several volleyball clubs and camps including Dunes and Midwest Juniors Volleyball.

Newell has coached for Wisconsin Performance VBC for the past two years. She also serves as the club’s Youth Volleyball Coordinator for boys & girls ages 4-12. 

In addition, she has coached at various other camps & clinics over the years.

Newell currently resides in Madison and works as a skills teacher/caregiver for Community Living Connections.
