Steve Bentin is in his first year as the Madison Area Technical College head women’s basketball coach. Bentin has been teaching in the Madison Metropolitan School District for 33 years. He retired from Madison West as a counselor in June 2003.

Prior to MATC, Bentin coached at Madison East for 15 years (12 years as head coach) and Madison West for the past nine seasons (7 years as head coach). His overall coaching record is 320-181. His teams made three state tournament appearances, placing second in Division I during the 1988-89 season.

Bentin has received numerous coaching honors including Big Eight Coach-of-the-Year, Wisconsin State Journal Madison Coach-of-the-Year, and most recently was selected as the head coach of the WBCA Girl’s Division I North All-Star Team.

Coach Bentin grew up in Detroit, Michigan. He received his B.S. degree from Wayne State University in 1966 and his M.S. degree from UW-
Madison in Guidance/Counseling in 1984. He and his wife Maureen have three children, Mike, Jeremy and Kyle.
