    Women's Basketball Coach
Steve Bentin has served as the Madison Area Technical College head women’s basketball
coach since the 2003-04 season. Bentin received WJCAA Coach-of-the-Year honors last
season while claiming conference and state titles with a 23-6 overall record. Bentin has
taught in the Madison Metropolitan School District for 33 years. He retired from Madison
West High School as a counselor in June 2003.

Prior to MATC, Bentin coached at Madison East for 15 years (12 years as head coach)
and Madison West for nine seasons (seven years as head coach). His overall high school
coaching record was an impressive 320-181. His teams made three state tournament
appearances, placing second in Division I during the 1988-89 season.

Bentin has received numerous coaching honors including Big Eight Coach-of-the-Year,
Wisconsin State Journal Madison Coach-of-the-Year, and was selected as the head coach
of the WBCA Girl’s Division I North All-Star Team.

Coach Bentin grew up in Detroit, Michigan. He received his B.S. degree from Wayne
State University in 1966 and his M.S. degree from University of Wisconsin-Madison in
Guidance/Counseling in 1984. He and his wife Maureen have three children, Mike, Jeremy
and Kyle.
